Between the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, the American military has fired six billion bullets. … so many that the army has run out and needs to buy Israeli surplus. That’s right, everybody: just about one for every person on earth. Curiously, current estimates indicate that roughly 20,000 insurgents have been killed (though the US military refuses to actually, y’know, put a number out there). Quick math reveals that’s 300,000 bullets per dead insurgent.
How the hell does it take 300,000 bullets to kill somebody? I mean, it’s possible that you burn through the first 100,000 shooting in the air for kicks and picking off tin cans from atop a fence … but at some point, I think it’s reasonable to ask what’s going on.
